Amelia Vanderhorst, 19 years old, participated via phone at Mount Gambier Magistrates Court in South Australia on that day, facing with one count of property damage.

In a statement at the moment of the recent event, the municipal authorities said that CCTV footage showed a individual placing fake eyes on the sculpture, which locals have dubbed the “Blue Blob”.

Ms Vanderhorst made no plea and informed the judge she was unwell, according to news outlets, with the judge recommending her to find a legal representative before her upcoming hearing in the final month of the year.

The following day the reported event, the local mayor said that repairs to the much-loved public artwork would be costly as the stickers could not be removed without harming the sculpture.

“This wilful damage to a cherished public artwork is unacceptable and disrespectful,” Mayor Lynette Martin remarked in mid-September. “It is not innocent amusement, it is costly - it is also disappointing to those people of our society who have embraced the Blue Blob.”

The mayor said the council would seek the “significant” repair costs from those accountable for the damage.

At the time the artwork was initially suggested, it received mixed reactions from the local community due to its price tag and appearance.

Priced at A$136,000 ($89,000; sixty-eight thousand pounds), the sculpture depicts a mythical megafauna, with the sculpture’s designers influenced by an prehistoric anteater-like marsupial discovered in local caves that was “massive, lumbering and fascinating”.
