The former Liverpool manager admits a return to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.

Jurgen Klopp, who departed from Anfield in 2024, indicated that returning someday is something that could happen. Klopp, after a transformative nine-season tenure that included continental glory and the Reds’ first league title in 30 years, now holds roles overseeing worldwide football with the Red Bull group and as an advisor for the DFL.

Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments

The club claimed England's top flight last season, but many fans who adore the manager would welcome the possibility that he might come back one day. In a wide-ranging interview, he explained to the podcast host: “I declared I will never coach another team within the country. So that means should it be the Reds...yes. In theory, it could happen.”

“I’m 58, so I could make the decision down the line, I don’t know. Is a decision required immediately? If so, I wouldn't return. Fortunately, no such pressure exists. I'll wait and observe how things unfold.”

What Would Lure Him Back?

Pressed on which situations would have to unfold to bring him back to the touchline, he revealed he isn't eager for a comeback. “I don’t even know exactly, I enjoy my current role,” he said. “I don’t miss coaching; I don’t miss standing in the rain for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip interviews repeatedly each week or constant media duties each week.

“The locker room isn't missed as a dressing room, yet sharing a meal with the players having a nice chat, I appreciate that. We won a lot of games so there was often a very good mood around the place. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh in my ear for example.”

Praise for His Successor

Klopp was full of praise regarding Arne Slot, crediting him for the tweaks that won the league in the previous season. The team has suffered a string of losses in all competitions after a summer spending spree, but he rubbished the suggestion of it representing a decline.

“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, you will all eat your words if you use the wrong words. An outstanding player. The French striker, incredible player. It’s a really good balanced team. No need for concern over the club, they'll bounce back.”

Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota

He shared movingly on the loss of the Portuguese star, a 2020 acquisition during his tenure, along with the consequences on Liverpool. The forward died tragically in a car crash together with his sibling this past summer.

“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding his on-field talent, it’s the guy he was. I struggle to conceive the dressing room absent his presence. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. A devastating blow for the entire squad too. Nobody at Liverpool will ever use it as an excuse but it is the situation. Being in that space where he was omnipresent. Coping with it on a personal level is challenging. Overwhelming.”
