Alpine star Lindsey Vonn states she will be "in a good place" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, on the back of securing a podium spot for the fourth instance in five World Cup events. The 41-year-old, who last week set a record by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, came in third place in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This was her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup podium finish. Strong Return in Val d'Isere Returning to the iconic venue for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn finished the course in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was 0.36 seconds behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking the runner-up spot. "I didn't quite have the right line on the initial jump," Vonn remarked. "Subsequently, I skied well. I'm satisfied with my run today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was too conservative." This result was her second podium at Val d'Isere during the event, having also taken third in the downhill on Saturday. A Remarkable Comeback from Retirement Vonn ended her career in early 2019 due to ongoing knee problems. However, she returned to racing in December 2024 following a major knee surgery. With 47 days remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are scheduled for 6-22 February, Vonn's performances are highly promising. She boasts an Olympic gold and two Olympic bronze medals in her collection and is firmly on track to compete for the United States at the 2026 Games. "In Cortina, I will be fully ready," the athlete confirmed. Aiming for Further Glory In addition to her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four overall crystal globes she has accumulated over a career spanning two decades. She currently holds a 69-point lead at the top of the downhill World Cup rankings and is ranked fifth in the overall super-G standings. This season's World Cup campaign features a total of nine races scheduled before the circuit finale in Norway on 21 March 2026.
