Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer responsible for some of the most iconic looks associated with artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has passed away aged 80.

He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, most notably the soft-colored suits that featured in rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."

His passing follows just weeks after he debuted his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the famous black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" made famous by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Pioneering Career

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to study at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he began designing clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show was launched by looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the bridal gown Price designed for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his technical proficiency in designing body-hugging looks made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he started creating pieces for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as a number of outfits for her American tour after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Dramatic Impact: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

Design circles laments the passing to a true visionary whose impact on fashion and music remains profoundly felt.
